Workplace culture is often discussed and we analyse factors that produce positive culture or otherwise. Culture can embody mood, comradery, support, collaboration, perceived personal value, respect, goals, communication styles amongst an elixir of other sometimes elusive factors.

It is important to critique one’s own influence on workplace culture as this is certainly within our circle of control. You may even be able to influence how colleagues impact the overall culture.

If a point is reached whereby your positivity and influence is no match for a toxic workplace, it may be time to distance yourself from this environment and pursue other workplace options.

When workplace culture is positive, challenges can be faced and overcome assuredly as a team, efforts feel appreciated, personal growth can be achieved, employees are confident to step outside of their comfort zone and expand their skillset and cases can be discussed with peers utilising the 'mastermind' to achieve best patient outcomes.

Lastly, at the end of the day, staff can go home feeling satisfied and accomplished.

Such a workplace is one we all strive for and ultimately, to achieve it, we all have a role to play.
