Time to find a new veterinary job? You need time to do it!

Have you decided that your current role is no longer meeting your goals, perhaps it lacks purpose or maybe the workplace culture doesn’t align with yours?

It could be that you are just starting to wonder if the grass is greener somewhere else?

Making a change can be daunting for some of us. Making it happen can be even harder.

One resource you will most definitely need is TIME! The other is a plan.

You need to ascertain where you are now and what your precise goal is. What specific requirements are you looking for in the next role? Is location important? What about team culture? Hours of work and responsibilities? Remuneration?

Travelling from A to B, where you are now to where you want to be, may require acquisition of new skills. How and when will you undertake courses and training?

Consider setting aside time for upskilling, before job searching even begins.

Your curriculum vitae is your first and sometimes only opportunity to impart a positive impression with a potential employer. There are a multitude of options for presentation and content of CVs, however when preparing your CV consider:

·      Personal and contact information

·      Education and qualifications

·      Work history and/or experience

·      Skills and accomplishments

·      Results rather than responsibilities

·      Customising the CV for the job description of the role you are applying for

·      Showing industry insight

·      Remembering presentation is key!

You have defined your destination; you have transformed into an appropriate and attractive candidate and now the search begins.

Allow time in your schedule to perform this. You may be able to take half a day per week or even a half to one hour per day.

Utilise the many tools available to you. Advertisements abound but also reach out within your network. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool.

Change can be daunting, but it also facilitates growth. Do not let fear hold you back. With time and planning, your working life can be transformed!
