You may never find the perfect veterinary job advert or role. However, there may be many golden opportunities that you are passing by.
Employers are frequently happy to accept candidates that possess most of the required criteria but have the capacity to develop in other areas. Selecting employees who are a good cultural fit with the clinic or hospital often leads to higher retention and overall satisfaction.
You may also discover employers are willing to negotiate terms of employment for an engaging candidate. This may include hours of work and shift preferences, permanency terms (permanent versus casual or contractual), split of consulting and surgical duties, remuneration, species preferences amongst other desired conditions. Communicating with a potential employer is the first step in the journey to discovering whether a mutually agreeable arrangement can be reached.
Similarly, you may find over time that a role can be massaged into one that you find better meets your requirements. Open communication with managers and business owners about your current needs and preferences, gives them an opportunity to accommodate you where possible. Circumstances of life are fluid and good managers are understanding of this.
Remember you are the creator of your life. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of effort to generate the right opportunities. They may in fact be right in front of you just with a little bit of camouflage.
